Fantastic Fiat 500 Luxus Jolly Ghia conversion (by Carrozzeria Ghia, also of Turin). Although a right hand drive vehicle registered in the United Kingdom in October 1972, these roofless and doorless vehicles were really designed for sunnier climes. Perfect for beachfronts of southern Europe, with their basket weave seating.

Fiat 500D Trasformabile 1964 Fiat 500 for sale

  • An early feature of the Fiat Cinquecento was the backwards opening suicide doors - a feature of pre-1965 examples

  • The Trasformabile is characterised by its long sunroof, that extends the full length of the vehicle. A feature continued from the late 1950s Nuova model

  • The 2-cylinder air-cooled Fiat 500 engine is, of course, rear mounted

  • The chrome trim on the bonnet is an early feature, gone by 1965 and the introduction of the 500F

  • The number plate tells us this car was first registered in the UK in January 1964

  • Despite the Nuova badging, this designation is generally applied to pre-1962 Fiat 500s

Country of manufacture: ITALY

The Fiat 500 launched in 1957 and production continued right through to 1975. A true epitome of Italian design. It's small, for sure, but if you've ever tried to navigate (let alone park) the narrow streets of an Italian town, you'll know why. This car was first registered in the UK in January 1964, and although badged 'Nuova 500' is more specifically designated 500D Trasformabile - in acknowledgement to the full length sunroof (shorter on the regular 500D). This is a beautiful example, in Fiat's verde oasi green finish. Note the chrome bonnet, door and body stripes.

The Fiat 500 was designed by Dante Giacosa, and released in the summer of 1957. Ten years on, and the design had been refined somewhat; now with front hinged doors, and a smaller sunroof, but still with the same classic Italian elegance, perfect for the narrow streets of Rome, Milan, Turin...

This is a wonderful example of a '67 Fiat 500F - one of 4 million Fiat 500 (cinquecento) cars built in Italy between July 1957 and 1975. The 500F is an upgrade on the previous 500D - most obviously in it's new front-hinged doors. Check out the rear hinged 'suicide' doors on an earlier Fiat 500D. This 499cc right hand drive example was first registered in the UK in February 1967.

Fiat 500F 1971 Fiat 500 for sale

  • A lovely example of a 1971 Fiat 500F in Fiat Chrome Yellow

  • Note the white steering wheel

  • The 500F lacked the chrome window surrounds of the more highly appointed 500L

  • The Fiat 500F grille behind the Fiat badge

  • This 500F is simple badged Fiat 500. Just a few years earlier the 500F was still being badged Nuova 500 - compare with this 1967 example

The Fiat 500F was in production from 1965 until 1973. it was designed (by Dante Giacosa) to be very small and very light, using as little metal as possible. The fabric sunroof was very much a part of this - it was not optional. This striking example was registered in January 1971. It's a right hand drive model, built for the roads of the United Kingdom. In 1971, two Fiat 500 variants were available, the 500F, shown here and a slightly fancier model the 500L; with additional nudge bars, but without the front grille seen here.

Fiat 500L 1970 (dark blue) Fiat 500 for sale

  • A new feature of the 500L, and one that easy differentiates it from the 500D, 500F etc, is the front (and rear) crashbar over the bumper

  • This gorgeous example is a left hand drive model, imported into the UK a good ten years after its date of manufacture

  • Note the rear crashbar, protecting the rear bumper, and the chrome strip above the windows

  • The back luggage rack would come in pretty useful. Storage space is certainly precious in a Fiat 500!

  • Earlier Fiat 500 models had a grille behind the Fiat emblem - the omission of this is one feature of the 500L

  • The rear badging designates this as a Fiat 500L - replacing the Nuova 500 lettering on other older 500s

  • The redesigned interior of the 500L includes new leatherette seats, carpets, black steering wheel and plastic dashboard

  • A new feature of the 500L, and one that easy differentiates it from the 500D, 500F etc, is the front (and rear) crashbar over the bumper

  • This gorgeous example is a left hand drive model, imported into the UK a good ten years after its date of manufacture

The Fiat 500L, or Fiat 500 Lusso, was, in essence, a more highly appointed version of the Fiat 500F. (Lusso is the Italian word for luxury). The Fiat 500 had already been in production for a decade on it's launch (1967), and production of this variant lasted until 1971, though they were still for sale through 1972. Note the additional front and rear crashbar and upgraded interior.

Fiat 500L 1970 (orange) Fiat 500 for sale

  • A nice example of a left hand drive Fiat 500L

  • 500L features include front and rear chrome crash bars, window surrounds, and side stripe above the windows

  • The sunroof of the Fiat 500L extends about half way across the roof. The sunroof was not optional!

  • The Fiat 500L had a simplified front end (compared to the previous variant, the 500F) without chrome grille and horizontal stripe, though it does have the chrome crash bar in front of the bumper

  • Interestingly, the reverse of this car is simply badged Fiat 500 - not 500L as is the case with this 1970 Fiat 500L

  • A nice example of a left hand drive Fiat 500L

  • 500L features include front and rear chrome crash bars, window surrounds, and side stripe above the windows

This is a lovely example of a Fiat 500L, built towards the end of 500L production (1967-1971) - one of 4 million Cinquecentos made in Italy between 1957 and 1975. L stands for 'Lusso' which is the Italian word for luxury; this model has somewhat fancier trim than the Fiat 500F that was available at the same time. It's a left hand drive, with a first registration date of December 1970.

Very cool light yellow Fiat 500L, in pretty tidy condition. The Italian "peoples car". Most 500L (L stands for 'Lusso' (luxury) were produced between 1967 and 1971, though they remained on sale into 1972. This will be one of the last examples made/sold.
