1973 Austin Allegro. UK Allegro production began in 1973 - with the slogan "The new driving force from Austin" - and ran until 1982. This first-year example was registered in June of 1973 and was manufactured at Leyland's Longbridge plant in Birmingham. The Allegro was available with a range of engines from 1L to 1.7L - this one, a 4-door saloon, is equipped with the 1.3L (1275 cc) A-Series I4. In the seventies and early eighties, the Allegro didn't have the best of reputations, but as a ubiquitous feature of many a Briton's childhood, they certainly have a place in the country's collective consciousness.
