1972 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray 5733cc
1972 Citroen DS Super 5. The Citroen DS was designed by Flaminio Bertoni and first demonstrated to the public at the 1955 Paris motor show. Although immediately popular, one downside of the early DS was the perceived lack of power, and over the next two decades of production this gradually increased, culminating in the 141bhp Citroen DS23, launched in 1972. The Citroen D Super first appeared in 1970, replacing the Citroen ID, so in 1972 (when the DS21 was replaced by the DS23) some of these D Supers were upgraded with the DS21's 2175cc engine - and given the model designation Citroen D Super 5.
A fine example of an early 1970s Citroen D Special - in Beige. Citroen had a wide array of colour options for the ID / DS models - have a look at early 70s Citroen colour charts here. There are four shades of beige alone!

1972 Citroen SM 3.0 Automatique, looking fly in Citroen's Vert Argent. Now this is a stylish car, and a pretty rare one too. The Citroen SM was a high-performance 3-door hatchback / coupé that resulted from Citroen's purchase of Maserati in 1968. It effectively combined a number of Citroen innovations so popular in cars like the DS (e.g. hydro-pneumatic suspension, and swivelling headlamps) with a powerful a Maserati V6 engine - and all in a Grand Tourer body style. The Citroen SM had a relatively brief production period (between 1970 and 1975), with the vast majority built between 1971 and 1973. The model discontinued when Citroen went out of business (bought out by Peugeot) in 1975. In total 12,920 SMs were built, with 2400 shipped to the United States in 1972 and 1973. And this example is one of those American SMs. Originally left-hand drive, it was converted to right-hand drive in 1974 before being re-exported to Australia, and finally the UK in 2012. Of the 12,920 built, just 1,012 were configured with a 3-litre engine and automatic transmission.
Fantastic Fiat 500 Luxus Jolly Ghia conversion (by Carrozzeria Ghia, also of Turin). Although a right hand drive vehicle registered in the United Kingdom in October 1972, these roofless and doorless vehicles were really designed for sunnier climes. Perfect for beachfronts of southern Europe, with their basket weave seating.
Very cool light yellow Fiat 500L, in pretty tidy condition. The Italian "peoples car". Most 500L (L stands for 'Lusso' (luxury) were produced between 1967 and 1971, though they remained on sale into 1972. This will be one of the last examples made/sold.
3.5-Litre Rover P5B saloon, from right at the end of the P5 production run. This model was used widely as a ministerial vehicle by the UK government; even the Queen had one! I particularly like all those Viking and Longship themed badges on the front grill.
This is one insanely sleek car, with a beautifully streamlined profile, giving a top speed of 112 mph.The GT6 was only produced between 1966 and 1973, the MKIII only appearing in late 1970. This example was, therefore, one of the last of it's kind manufactured. Fitted with a 1998cc petrol engine.
Lovely yellow Triumph Spitfire mark IV. The mkIV was in production circa 1970-1974, with 70,021 examples completed in this time. Like the mk3, it was fitted with the Triumph 1296cc Standard SC I4 engine, and was available as a two-door convertible (as seen here), or with a hardtop. This example was registered in November 1972.

A Triumph Stag Estate I hear you cry! This car was built/converted in 1972 by Ian 'Del' Lines (hence the plate) at Atlantic garage in Weston super Mare. He then produced twenty five more Del Lines Stag Estates - thanks to a positive feature in Motor magazine - but was forced to stop after British Leyland intervened. It's a very cool looking car, and plenty useful too (this was Lines personal vehicle). It's been around a bit and is recently restored - read more about the restoration process here. 2998 cc. registered July 1972. Totally cool, very unusual, and certainly a conversation piece!
This is a really nice Triumph TR6, first registered September 1972. 2498cc straight 6 engine. The TR6 was conceived as a 2-door roadster / convertible, although an optional steel hardtop was also available.
A much loved second version (bay window) T2 VW camper, no doubt with a lot of tales to tell. First registered November 1972. Soul...
Very nice early 70s (L reg = 1972/73) bay-window VW T2 Camper / Transporter van - on vacation in sunny Cornwall, UK. Despite being UK registered, this example is an imported left-hand drive vehicle.
Early example baywindow camper van, first registered in march 1973. Two tone grey/blue and white. 1584cc.
